Recap - I’ve officially taken a massive leap of faith into a BPO and away from Engineering. Still the black sheep of the khandaan. Working in a BPO afterall, what do you think?

Welcome to chapter 2 -

6 months in my new life, things seems to have changed, but have they really? I’m supposed to be more responsible and focused. Am I that guy now?

Let’s find out - I flunked the certification round of the communication training. How? I’m supposedly good at communication afterall, isn’t that one of the major reasons why I joined a BPO in the first place. Reattempted the certification test after 1 week of supposed remedial training. Cleared the certifications, but was moved to a team which has less than 1 second of wait time between customer phone calls and new people. As much as I hated making friends in the first team, I had to do it again in the new team. F*#*

Where am I with my career plan - definitely not on track. Several people have more talent and tenure at the company than I do. My goal of becoming a team leader within a year now seems far fetched.

I have not cracked the call handling part yet. Everyday 5-15 minutes before logout I get a call which ensures my shift extends by an hour or two. Honestly speaking - I don’t mind this because the more I practice I’ll be more equipped to beat experience with hard-work

12 hours of night shift everyday eats into your personal life and make you a borderline vampire. To help you visualise here’s a description - I used a bed sheet instead of a curtain to ensure not even a shred of light enters my room when I sleep during the day.

Amongst all of this there was a silver lining. It was the discovery of a small biryani shop & dosa shop near kamanahalli. The dosa was as long as my arm, and the biryani had more masala than all the plot twists in Race.

So going back to the question, where am I? I think the most apt answer would be - Figuring shit out / surviving
